Marieta has focused her research on the synthesis, characterization, and application of new molecular entities derived from natural resources. Those systems have successfully been applied as anti-inflammatory, antifungal, anticancer, and plant growth promoters, among others. Besides, that work has contributed to discovering novel synthetic organic procedures. Recently, to this research topic, it has been added the synthesis and characterization of new low molecular weight organic compounds as materials.
Marieta was born in Puebla, Mexico, where she grew up and went to school. She studied chemistry at Benemerita Universidad Autonoma de Puebla. Later, she joined Posgrado en Ciencias Químicas of BUAP for Master's and PhD studies under the supervision of Prof. Jesus Sandoval-Ramirez. In 2011, accepted a postdoctoral position at Simon Fraser University, Burnaby, BC, Canada, under the supervision of Prof. Brian Mario Pinto.
In 2012, she was appointed a Faculty member at Facultad de Ciencias Quimicas BUAP. In 2014, she joined as a Professor at Centro de Investigacion y de Estudios Avanzados in Merida, where she leads the Biomol & Biomat Lab.
