An sonographic imaging that allows for visibility of the fetus to create images and examine the anatomy of the fetus based on the sound waves which bounce of the fetus’ body.
There are three ultrasounds, one in each trimester. There is one in the first trimester to check development and heartbeat. The second trimester to examine the gender and anatomy, including the cleft plate. In trimester three the doctor will look at the movement, and the mothers placenta and uterus.
This test is a part of normal prenatal care. Additional ultrasounds are used if it is a geriatric, high risk or further concerns. The doctor can examine the anatomy and measurements of the fetus to make sure the development is continuing properly. It is the first step in testing to reveal information about the fetus and looking at genetic abnormalities, like an etopic pregnancy.
The mom will lay on the examination table and reveal the stomach, the doctor will put a gel on the stomach then the transducer which uses sound waves to create the image of the baby. The images will be revealed on a screen nearby to reveal the fetus.
