How This Course Works
This is a 16 week FULLY FACE TO FACE course that begins on August 26th, 2025
There are some required texts for this course:
*Marieb & Hoehn, 2020. Anatomy & Physiology (7th Ed.-ISBN 9780135168042 – or – 6th Ed. ISBN 9780134712437)
*Newton, C., 2020. Lecture Notes for Human Anatomy & Physiology – Biology 32. This text will be provided by the instructor.
*Newton, C., 2020. Laboratory Exercises for Human Anatomy & Physiology – Biology 32. This text will be provided by the instructor.
You will learn in a community with your peers. Since this a fully F2F course, there will be due dates, scheduled exams and required interaction with classmates.
This class is organized into one-week modules in Canvas. You will have access to only one unit at a time. After Exam I, Unit 2 will open, after Exam II, Unit 3 will open.
Most modules will contain 2 lectures, 2 labs, a quiz (either graded or practice), and other activities
This class is information INTENSIVE. It will require a SIGNIFICANT amount of studying. It is recommended that you spend a MINIMUM of 2 hours outside of class for every 1 hour of class time dedicated to studying. The recommended number of hours of study for this class is 12-18 hours a week of studying ON TOP of your regular coursework (Shoot for 12 hours at the VERY least). This is not meant to scare or intimidate you, but it is to prepare you. This class takes a great amount of dedication, but I will help you any way I can along the way.
My Teaching Philosophy
Diversity enriches the learning process. Not only can instructors learn from the way students of different backgrounds learn, but students may also further their understanding by hearing the views and opinion of their peers.
With the amount of diversity among students within our classrooms, this forces the need for a truly reciprocal relationship between the student and instructor. I must be extremely clear with expectations, give clear instructions on course navigation, listen and be sensitive to the needs of my students and coach the student to become more independent through feedback and positive reinforcement. At the same time, students must understand and strive to exceed or at least meet course expectations, be receptive of feedback in all forms and make sure to communicate needs/concerns/suggestions to the instructor OFTEN.
I understand that students learn in many different ways, which is why I try to use as many different video, audio, images, and other modes of delivering information throughout the course. However, I will not know if something isn't working for you, if you do not communicate that to me. Please do not hesitate to let me know if something is not working or to make a suggestion if you have one. I am all ears!
I recognize that this is an especially stressful time to be a student. COVID-19 has added significant stress and trauma to all of our lives, some more than others. Please know that I am here to help you succeed in this course in any way that I can. In order for me to help, you need to make sure that you communicate with me as often as you need to and I promise to check in on you all as well.
We are a team and we will get through this semester together. We got this!
