The Flora of Mongolia

In 2026, a total of 3,075 native plant taxa from 653 genera and 111 families were recognized in Mongolia, including 128 endemic and 300 sub-endemic species (Baasanmunkh et al. 2022, 2026).

ILLUSTRATED fLORA OF MONGOLIA

In this book, we provided the wild species photos of 1,159 species belonging to 455 genera and 100 families. The majority of species photos belonging to the angiosperm (1,132 species) along with gymnosperms (10 species), ferns and fern allies (2 species) and lycophytes (2 species). Futhermore photos of 35 endemic species were provided in this book. The number of species is sharing about 36% compared to the total of vascular plants (ca. 3,150 taxa). We believe, that this Illustrated flora of Mongolia will inspire many readers to learn more on vascular plants in Mongolia.

Woody Plants of Mongolia: a field guide

Approximately 200 species are woody plants, including trees, shrubs, and subshrubs in the country. In this book, we provide wild photo illustrations for over 105 woody plants, accompanied by detailed photographs highlighting important characteristics for each species. Particularly, the photographic illustrations focus mainly on tree and shrub species. Additionally, we include the common name, Mongolian name, synonym, distribution across phytogeographical regions, habitat, and conservation status for each species. Furthermore, we have compiled a checklist of woody plant species categorized into trees, shrubs, and subshrubs based on various sources in Mongolia. The checklist contains 214 woody plants (including 38 tree species, 154 shrub species, and 22 subshrub species) belonging to 60 genera and 29 families. This book serves as a fundamental guideline for students, researchers, and local individuals interested in woody plants.

FLORA OF MONGOLIA PROJECT, iNaturalist

Flora of Mongolia project was established in January, 2019 by S.Baasanmunkh which is now most valuable online sources to exploring the vascular plants in Mongolia (Baasanmunkh et al. 2026)
