About the Volunteer BINHI Buddy Training
The BINHI buddy training will run for 3 weeks and will be a mix of asynchronous and synchronous sessions:
Asynchronous sessions (6-9 hours): Half of the training will be conducted through virtual training modules posted on the BINHI Buddy volunteer website.
There are 3 training modules designed to prepare you for your role as a BINHI Buddy tutor. Each module contains articles, videos, tutoring material templates (ex. tester form, lesson plan), and pair work assignments. Module 1 will be posted first, then Modules 2 and 3 will follow. You have a week to study each set.
Module 1: Science of Reading (SOR) [2-3 hours]
By the end of this module, you will be able to understand what SOR means, recall key SOR terminologies, apply SOR reading models to your lesson plans, and incorporate phonemic awareness activities in your lessons.
Module 2: Lesson Planning [3-4 hours]
By the end of this module, you will be able to understand how and why lesson planning is done, understand how lesson planning and SOR are connected, and create a tutee-centered lesson plan with your assigned partner that incorporates the reading models and the general principles of SOR.
Module 3: Conduct of Tutoring [1-2 hours]
By the end of this module, you will be able to understand how to effectively conduct and manage a tutorial session.
Synchronous sessions (2 hours): The other half will be conducted through virtual regrouping sessions.
During regrouping sessions, you will have the opportunity to discuss ideas, seek clarification/elaboration of content learned, and share insights and experiences.
There will be 2 regrouping sessions during the training:
1st Regrouping Session [1 hour]: Focused on the content and tasks of Module 1
2nd Regrouping Session [1 hour]: Focused on the content and tasks of Modules 2 and 3
