Czech Republic won their Group A2 opening against Switzerland thanks to an unlucky own goal by Djibril Sow.
Time and date: 19:45 UK, June 2, 2022
Venue: Sinobo Stadium
Starting lineups:
- Czech Republic: Vaclík; Zima, Brabec, Krejčí; Coufal, Sadílek (Kavlach 84), Souček, Zelený (Matějů 87); Jankto (Lingr 67), Kuchta (Pešek 67), Hložek (Jurečka 87).
- Switzerland: Sommer; Widmer, Elvedi, Schär, Rodríguez (Lotomba 87); Sow (Zuber 68), Freuler, Xhaka, Vargas (Seferović 87); Embolo (Gavranović 90), Okafor (Shaqiri 68).
The game got off to a rapid start, with the Swiss defense unable to cope with Vladimr Coufal's long throw, allowing Jan Kutcha to tap in at the far post against the run of play.
As the hosts pushed for a second goal, Yann Sommer made a fantastic stop to deny Jakub Jankto, but it was all square on the stroke of half-time when Noah Okafor smashed home from close range.
Switzerland opened the second half on the front foot, but Coufal's shot hit the post before Jankto's cross took a big deflection from Djibril Sow and looped past Sommer to give his team the lead.
