A Joint University of Dayton, University of Leicester, Space Park Leicester and NASA SPL Master's project covering a feasibility study of a MIDEX spacecraft mission to the Heliopause and Interstellar Medium (ISM). The original idea is based on this paper Project Based on the paper: Transforming Exploration of the Local Interstellar Medium using SmallSat Technology
The inaugural STEP cohort is made up of four MS Aerospace Engineers from UD and 5 MSc Physics students from UL. This interdisciplinary team covers the scientific research intended to be completed while developing a spacecraft system that could perform the mission. My master's thesis is based on developing a Rotating Detonation Rocket Engine (RDRE) for better ISP, energy density and for use as a togglable engine besides the attitude determination control system (ADCS). ADCS for the first cruise phase, gravity assist near Jupiter, and second enduring cruise phase is my other piece of the project.
The ADCS modeling is being completed with Matlab and Simulink.
Initially Python and Matlab will be used for the RDRE Chemical Modeling, but C++ will be used as needed for optimization.
