I’m Jaime Sisson, a certified Spanish teacher with a bachelor’s degree in Spanish from Southern Methodist University and a master’s degree in Spanish and Second Language Instruction from Texas A&M University–Commerce. With more than 10 years of teaching experience, I’ve had the privilege of teaching Spanish and ESL to students of all ages—from K–12 to adults—at every level, including Spanish I, II, & III, Heritage Spanish I–III, and AP Spanish Language and Culture.
My journey with Spanish began at age 19 while working in a restaurant in Dallas. I wanted to communicate with the kitchen staff, and they generously taught me my first words and phrases. That experience opened my eyes to how many people in our community spoke Spanish and sparked my curiosity to learn more.
I enrolled in Spanish I at Eastfield Community College, where I not only continued my studies but also met my husband. Being able to speak Spanish with him and his family from Mexico has deepened our relationship tremendously. We both share a love for teaching languages and traveling—he teaches English as a Second Language (ESL), and whenever we visit a new country, we make it a priority to learn some of the language and fully immerse ourselves in the local culture.
I also had the incredible opportunity to study abroad in Costa Rica and Spain, living with host families for six weeks each during two different summers. Those immersive experiences showed me how language can transform travel, connect cultures, and build lasting friendships.
Back home in Dallas, I taught ESL and Citizenship Preparation, where my students inspired me daily and reminded me that bilingualism doesn’t just create opportunities abroad—it strengthens bonds right here at home.
Learning Spanish has opened an entirely new world for me—one full of connection, belonging, and cultural understanding. That’s why I created Bilingual With Us, a supportive bilingual community where learners and speakers come together to celebrate culture, share experiences, and encourage one another.

Soy Jaime Sisson, una maestra certificada de español con una licenciatura en Español de Southern Methodist University y una maestría en Español y Enseñanza de Segundas Lenguas de Texas A&M University–Commerce. Tengo más de 10 años de experiencia enseñando español e inglés (ESL) a estudiantes de todas las edades — desde niños hasta adultos — en todos los niveles, incluyendo Español I, II y III, Español para hispanohablantes I–III y AP Español Lengua y Cultura.
Mi historia con el español comenzó cuando tenía 19 años, trabajando en un restaurante en Dallas. Quería hablar con el personal de cocina, y ellos me enseñaron mis primeras palabras y frases. Esa experiencia me hizo ver cuántas personas en nuestra comunidad hablaban español y despertó mi deseo de aprender más.
Me inscribí en Español I en Eastfield Community College, donde continué mis estudios y también conocí a mi esposo. Poder hablar español con él y con su familia de México ha fortalecido mucho nuestra relación. A los dos nos encanta enseñar idiomas y viajar — él enseña inglés como segunda lengua (ESL), y cuando viajamos a otro país, siempre aprendemos un poco del idioma local y tratamos de vivir la cultura completamente.
También tuve la oportunidad de estudiar en Costa Rica y en España, viviendo con familias anfitrionas durante seis semanas en dos veranos diferentes. Esas experiencias me enseñaron cómo el idioma puede transformar los viajes, conectar culturas y crear amistades duraderas.
De regreso en Dallas, enseñé inglés (ESL) y preparación para la ciudadanía, donde mis estudiantes me inspiraron cada día y me recordaron que el bilingüismo no solo abre puertas en otros países, sino que también fortalece las conexiones aquí mismo, en casa.
Aprender español me abrió un nuevo mundo, lleno de conexión, comunidad y entendimiento cultural. Por eso creé Bilingual With Us, una comunidad bilingüe donde celebramos la cultura, compartimos experiencias y nos apoyamos mutuamente mientras aprendemos.
