About us

Located at Sunnyvale Farm, Bean Creek, Northern NSW, Big Sky Alpacas began breeding alpacas in 2005. We have a small herd of white and light fawn huacaya, and our breeding focus is to produce alpacas with fine, dense fleece that is consistent across a sound frame, and a friendly nature. Over the years we have consistently improved the quality of our herd, through showing the animals we have bred (and their fleece), to identify the traits where improvement was desired, and then sourcing the genetics - via stud matings - to boost those traits in our herd.

Big Sky Alpacas is managed by Michelle Malt, who is an active member of the Australian Alpaca Association (AAA) and the Big Sky herd is managed under the Q-Alpaca Biosecurity Program (Certificate number 07/0221).

Michelle has attended numerous educational workshops, seminars and conferences across Australia and New Zealand. She has amassed a considerable reference library and a wealth of knowledge about alpacas and the alpaca industry here in Australia and internationally.
