Introduction
Welcome to the Big Pill Reminder support page! We're here to help you get the most out of the app and manage your medications effectively.
Getting Started
Q: How do I add my first medication? A: It's easy!
Open the Big Pill Reminder app.
Navigate to the Meds tab (often represented by a pill bottle icon).
Tap the '+' (plus) icon, usually located in the top right corner of the Meds screen or sometimes also available on the "Today" screen.
This will open the "Add Medication" screen. Fill in the details:
Name: The name of your medication.
Dosage: The amount per dose (e.g., "1", "2", "500").
Unit: The unit for the dosage (e.g., "pill(s)", "mg", "ml").
Form: The type of medication (e.g., "Tablet", "Capsule", "Liquid").
Instructions: Any special instructions (e.g., "Take with food," "Before breakfast").
Schedule: Choose how often you take the medication (see "Understanding Schedules" below).
Reminder Sound: Select your preferred sound for the reminder.
Notes: Add any personal notes about this medication.
Once all details are entered, tap Save. Your medication is now added!
Managing Your Medications
Q: How do I edit a medication I've already added? A:
Go to the Meds tab.
You'll see a list of all your medications. Tap on the one you want to edit.
This will open the "Edit Medication" screen, where you can change any of the details you previously entered.
Tap Save to apply your changes.
Q: How do I delete a medication? A:
Go to the Meds tab.
Tap on the medication you want to delete to open the "Edit Medication" screen.
Scroll to the bottom of this screen and tap the Delete Medication button. You'll be asked to confirm.
Alternatively, on the "Meds" tab list, you can often swipe left on a medication row to reveal a delete option.
Q: Understanding Schedules - How do I set when to take my medication? A: When adding or editing a medication, you'll set its schedule:
Frequency:
Once Daily: For medications taken once a day. You'll specify the time.
Multiple Times a Day: For medications taken more than once. You can add specific times for each dose (e.g., 8:00 AM, 12:00 PM, 6:00 PM).
Specific Days of Week: For medications taken only on certain days (e.g., every Monday and Friday). You'll select the days and the time.
As Needed (PRN): For medications taken only when necessary. These will not have scheduled reminders but can be logged manually.
Start Date: The date you begin taking this medication. Reminders will start from this date.
End Date (Optional): If it's a short course, you can set an end date. Reminders will stop after this date. If left unset, reminders continue indefinitely.
Enable Reminder: Ensure this toggle is ON if you want to receive notifications for this medication.
Using the App Tabs
Today (Dashboard) Tab Q: What does the "Today" tab show? A: This is your daily dashboard. It lists all the medication doses that are scheduled for the current day, ordered by time. It's your quick glance at what's due.
Q: How do I record a dose from the "Today" tab? A: For each medication listed as due:
Take: Tap the "Take" button to record that you've taken the dose. The item will update to show it's been taken, and a log will be created.
Skip: Tap the "Skip" button if you are missing that dose. This also creates a log entry.
Snooze: Tap the "Snooze" button to delay the reminder for that specific dose. A new notification will be scheduled for a short period later (e.g., 10 minutes), and the item on the dashboard will show its snoozed status.
Meds Tab Q: What is the "Meds" tab for? A: The "Meds" tab shows a complete list of all the medications you have added to the app. From here, you can tap any medication to view its details or edit/delete it.
History Tab Q: What information is in the "History" tab? A: The "History" tab displays a chronological log of all your medication actions – every time you've marked a dose as "Taken" or "Skipped," including the date, time, medication name, and dosage.
Q: How can I share my medication history? A:
Go to the History tab.
Tap the share icon (usually an arrow pointing up out of a box) in the top right corner.
This will generate an image of your medication history report.
You can then choose to share this image via email, messages, AirDrop, save it to your Photos, or use other sharing options available on your device.
Settings Tab Q: What can I do in the "Settings" tab? A: The Settings tab allows you to:
Export All Data: Create a JSON file containing all your medication details and history. You can save this file as a personal backup.

Notifications & Reminders
Q: I'm not receiving notifications. What should I do? A:
Check Permissions: When you first launched the app, it should have asked for permission to send notifications. If you denied it, you'll need to enable notifications for MedicationManager in your iPhone's Settings app (Settings > Notifications > Big Pill Reminder).
Check Individual Medication Settings: When adding or editing a medication, make sure the "Enable Reminder" toggle is switched ON for that specific medication.
Check Device Settings: Ensure your device is not in "Do Not Disturb" mode or "Focus" mode that silences notifications, unless you have configured Big Pill Reminder notifications to bypass these. Also, check your device's sound/ringer volume.
Correct Schedule: Double-check that the medication's schedule (times, start date, end date) is correctly set up.
Q: Can I change the reminder sound? A: Yes! When you add or edit a medication, there's an option to select a "Reminder Sound." You can choose from the default sound or other available tones like "Chime" or "Alarm Clock."
Q: What happens if I'm using the app when a reminder is due? A: The app is set up to show you the notification (as a banner at the top of your screen) even if you are currently using the app, so you won't miss it.
Q: How does "Snooze" work from a notification? A: If you tap "Snooze" on a notification, that reminder will be dismissed, and a new reminder for the same medication will be scheduled for a short period later (e.g., 10 minutes). The snoozed notification will have "Snoozed:" in its title.
Q: What happens if I "Mark as Taken" from a notification? A: The app will record that dose as taken in your history, just as if you'd tapped "Take" on the dashboard. The app badge should also update.
Troubleshooting & Common Questions
Q: Will my data be saved if I close the app? A: Yes, all your medication details and history are saved locally on your device.
Q: How can I back up my data? A: In the Settings tab, there's an "Export All Data" option. This creates a JSON file with all your medication information and history logs. You can save this file to your Files app, iCloud Drive, email it to yourself, or store it in another safe place as a personal backup. (Note: An "Import Data" feature may be considered for future versions).
Q: Is my data private? A: Your medication data is stored locally on your device. Please refer to our Privacy Policy (link available in the "About" section in Settings) for more details on how we handle data.
