About the Blizard Institute

World class biomedical research in the heart of London

The Blizard Institute is the largest institute of Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry at Queen Mary University of London. It is a world class biomedical research institution, integrating basic science, clinical research and translational research activity within a unique and award-winning facility.

The Blizard Building provides state of the art laboratory and office accommodation based on an innovative open plan design, with core facilities for:

· flow cytometry

· tissue imaging

· phenotypic screening

· 3D tissue printing

· Simoa platform

· Blizard Advanced Light Microscopy (BALM)

· QMUL’s Genome Centre

The open plan arrangement maximizes the mixing of research groups and promotes the development of interdisciplinary projects.

The Institute is organised into five research & education centres; Cell Biology & Cutaneous Research, Genomics & Child Health, Immunobiology, Neuroscience & Trauma, and Primary Care & Public Health. Each of these centres is based around shared research themes with a 6th centre, the Centre of the Cell, focussed on Public Engagement.
