Biography

Nina Bishop, Orchestra Director 

Ms. Nina Bishop has served as orchestra director at Brookline High School since 2018. During her tenure, the program has expanded to include String Orchestra, Concert Orchestra, and Advanced Chamber Orchestra. She also teaches high school piano and elementary string ensembles in Brookline Public Schools. BHS’s Advanced Chamber Orchestra has earned four gold medals at the Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association (MICCA) Concert Festival, placing it among the top 5% of public school orchestras in Massachusetts. In 2026, Ms. Bishop was named a quarterfinalist for the Grammy Music Educator Award, which recognizes American music educators for their significant and lasting contributions in the field of music education.

Ms. Bishop graduated from Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan and subsequently attended the University of North Texas, where she studied violin performance. Her summer festival experiences include Interlochen, Wethersfield Music Festival, Académie d’Été de Nice, International School of Musical Arts, Manchester Music Festival, and Oberlin Baroque Performance Institute. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in violin performance. Her primary teachers include Julia Bushkova at the University of North Texas, Dana Mazurkevich, and members of the Muir Quartet at Boston University. She also studied with Roland and Almita Vamos, Ben Holland in England, Baroque violinist Cynthia Roberts, and Daniel Stepner. Her conducting teachers included Clay Couturiaux at the University of North Texas and Charles Peltz at the New England Conservatory. In May 2022, she earned a second master’s degree in Arts in Education from Harvard Graduate School of Education.

Ms. Bishop’s varied performance credits include concerts with Plácido Domingo, Andrea Bocelli, Michael Bublé, and Rod Stewart, as well as appearances with HBO’s Game of Thrones Orchestra, Kanye West’s Touch the Sky tour, Orchestra Sinfonica dell'Europa Unita, Prince William’s Earthshot Prize Awards, and the Boston Early Music Festival. Her regional orchestral work includes performances with New Bedford Symphony, Vermont Symphony, Rhode Island Philharmonic, Portland Symphony, Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP), and Marsh Chapel Collegium.
