Bio
Ms. Nina Bishop has been the orchestra director at BHS since 2018. In that time the orchestra program has expanded to include String Orchestra, Concert Orchestra and Advanced Chamber Orchestra. Ms. Bishop also teaches an introductory piano class and works with elementary string students in Brookline Public Schools. The Advanced Chamber Orchestra was awarded two gold medals from the Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors' Association Concert Festival, placing them in the top 5% of public school orchestras in the state.
Ms. Bishop graduated from Interlochen Arts Academy in Interlochen, MI and subsequently attended the University of North Texas. Summer festivals include Interlochen, Wethersfield Music Festival, Academie d'Ete de Nice, International School of Musical Arts, Manchester Music Festival and Oberlin Baroque Performance Institute.
Ms. Bishop received her Bachelor and Master's degrees in Violin Performance. She studied with Roland and Almita Vemos, Ben Holland at the Royal Northern School of Music in England, Cynthia Roberts (Baroque violin), Daniel Stepner, and Julia Bushkova at the University of North Texas. Her Master's studies were with Dana Mazurkevich and members of the Muir Quartet at Boston University. Ms. Bishop studied conducting with Clay Couturiaux at UNT and Charles Peltz at NEC. Ms. Bishop received a second Master's degree, in Arts in Education, from Harvard Graduate School of Education in May 2022.
Notable performances include concerts with Sir David Wilcox, Graeme Jenkins, tenors Placido Domingo and Andrea Bocelli, Michael Bublé, Sarah McLachlan, Rod Stewart, HBO's Game of Thrones Orchestra, Kanye West's Touch the Sky tour, Orchestra Sinfonica dell'Europa Unita, Prince William's Earthshot Awards and the Boston Early Music Festival. Ms. Bishop has performed regionally with the New Bedford Symphony, Vermont Symphony, Rhode Island Philharmonic, Portland Symphony, BMOP, Plymouth Philharmonic and Marsh Chapel Collegium.
