What is the format of the BHPA program?
BHPA is a hybrid model with a combination of online and in-person learning. To start, registrants complete 9.5 hours of content online using the learning management system, Lecture Panda. This content is delivered asynchronously, meaning that learners can work on these modules in their own time on-demand. Once the online material is completed, a learner must attend a live in-person session. There learners will complete 4.5 hours of remaining content before earning their ACPE-approved certificate.
When is the live in-person session of BHPA?
Generally, the live component of the BHPA program is delivered 3 times per year; once in the winter, spring and fall. Follow the BHPA LinkedIn page for announcements regarding each live session.
Where are the live in-person sessions held?
Currently, BHPA is geographically bound in the Philadelphia area so we have hosted in-person sessions within the city at St. Joseph’s University - UCity Campus and the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University.
We also are partnered with the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association and host a live in-person session at their annual conference in Harrisburg, PA each February.
How do you earn CEs?
Any licensed pharmacist or technician completing the entire BHPA program will earn 14 credit hours of continuing education. Lecture Panda will ask for your NABP number and the credits will automatically be reflected in your account once the training is completed. You will earn 9.5 credit hours once you have completed the asynchronous content and the remaining 4.5 credit hours at the end of the live in-person session. More information about CEs can be found here. Contact bhpa_dl@sju.edu for any issues with claiming credits.
Can a pharmacy student earn CEs?
No, pharmacy students are not eligible for CEs. Only licensed pharmacists or technicians are able to earn CEs.
Who is eligible to participate in the BHPA program?
Any community or ambulatory pharmacy staff member, including licensed pharmacists and technicians, as well as student interns, community health workers, cashiers, delivery drivers, etc.
Any pharmacy student who is a P1 or higher is eligible
How much does it cost to enroll in the BHPA program?
BHPA is currently grant-funded and free of cost for all learners
Is BHPA a credential that can be included in my title?
No, currently BHPA is not a credential program. So, displaying your title as “John Example, PharmD, BHPA” would not be appropriate. You can list your BHPA certificate as an ACPE-approved certificate on your CV however.
I have completed the asynchronous content on Lecture Panda but keep receiving an error to “Submit Credits and Download Certificate.” What should I do?
If you are a licensed pharmacist or technician, ensure your NABP number and associated information has been filled in correctly. If so, and the error persists, please contact bhpa_dl@sju.edu for additional guidance.
If you are not a licensed pharmacist or technician, this message can be ignored. The Lecture Panda software is attempting to deliver CE to an individual who cannot earn CE. As long as all of the modules have been completed, you will be eligible to attend the live in-person session.
Now that BHPA is an ACPE-approved certificate, can my existing BHPA certificate of completion be upgraded to this new certificate?
No, due to ACPE guidelines, your current certificate of completion cannot be amended as the new certification is only valid for new BHPAs after June 2026
If I earned my BHPA certificate of completion, am I missing out on some skills that the ACPE-approved certificate BHPAs have?
Largely the program remained the same after the new accreditation, however there are a few new and amended modules. The BHPA skillset amongst all completers remains generally the same.
Can I retake the whole program so I can hold the new ACPE-approved certificate? Will it still be free to me?
Yes, you can. However, you will need to complete both the online asynchronous content on Lecture Panda and attend the live in-person session again. It remains free of charge to all learners.
Does my BHPA certification have an expiration date?
No, the BHPA ACPE-approved certificate does not have an expiration date or requirement to “recertify” in the future
