Why did you join civically engaged Scholars?
I joined Civically Engaged Scholars as part of my program of study, the ASL-English Interpreter Training Program. It is a requirement of my program, but I also see how it fits quite naturally into the curriculum. This is because being involved in the Deaf community is a very important part of both ASL skills development and creating connections, relationships, and trust with the Deaf community. This Civically Engaged Scholars program will help push me to dive into the community and become involved on a level that I likely would not do on my own. It will also help me to track and reflect upon my involvement and progress.
Which Pathway are you excited to learn more about, and why?
There are six Pathways of Public Service and Civic Engagement: Community Engaged Learning and Research, Community Organizing and Activism, Direct Service, Philanthropy, Policy and Governance, and Social Entrepreneurship and Corporate Social Responsibility. The pathway that I am most excited to learn more about is Direct Service. I am excited about this because I personally find great fulfillment in helping other people and being of service. On the Enneagram Personality Test, I am a Type 2: "The Helper". I like to care for others and belong through service and being useful. The Direct Service Pathway seems like it will align well with my personality and natural interests.
