What is the National Honor Society?

The National Honor Society (NHS) is an organization established by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) to recognize academic achievement and promote leadership and character development within schools.  A major tenet of the National Honor Society is the commitment to community service. Each student member of the Bloomfield Hills High School Chapter of NHS completes additional hours of community service beyond the service hours required for graduation, a portion of which is devoted to academic tutoring and participation in a small group project.

The National Honor Society was founded on four guiding pillars: Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character. These values serve as cornerstones that shape growth, enrich education, and inspire students to make lasting, meaningful contributions to the world. To be part of the NHS is to commit to living out these principles each day.
