Between 1985 and 2016, approximately 6,748,420 people have committed suicide allover the world.
The trend has always been rising mostly till 2003. There was a dip in 2004 and remained almost steady until 2009.
The year 2009 saw a slight increase. But post that, the numbers have been decreasing over the years.
The peak was seen in the year 2002 with 256,095 suicides. This might be a result due to world economic crisis during that time.
The recent trend has been a declining one. We can see a sharp drop in 2016. This is because the data was collected in the early months of 2016.
When we look in terms of number of suicides for every 100 thousand people, the graph reveals that the year 1995 had the highest numbers.
However, the trend remains almost the same, first an increase, then stable and then decreasing.
An increase in awareness and adequate psychological help is playing a vital role in the reduction of suicide rates.
