Purnima Bhanot is a Professor in the Department of Microbiology, Biochemistry & Molecular Genetics at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. She attended Mount Holyoke College, MA. She received her PhD from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, MD and completed her postdoctoral training at New York University, NY. She is fascinated by the biology of Plasmodium parasites, the pathogens responsible for malaria. Drawing on a multidisciplinary approach that combines cell biology, biochemistry, genetics, advanced microscopy, and drug discovery, Dr. Bhanot works closely with students, trainees, and collaborators around the world. She is passionate about mentoring the next generation of scientists and fostering a collaborative, inclusive research environment where curiosity, creativity, and rigorous science go hand in hand. When not in the lab, she enjoys traveling and the outdoors.
