Beyond Words Live started out in 2006 as a platform for survivors to tell their own stories in their own words. It all started because a friend came to a survivor meeting and told us that she was being interviewed by a publication for a story in their magazine (not mentioning any names). After spending hours with my friend, the person doing the interview, advised her that she wouldn't be publishing her story in their publication because she didn't fit their "demographic", after they found out that she was telling them what happend to her when she was a teen and was now in her 40's.
I was so upset with the interviewer. How dare they spend that much time with her and not publish the story? And, while she was recounting what had happend in her teens/early 20's, there are not many survivors of domestic violence at that age is comfortable (and, safe) to tell there story. Oftentimes, it may be years and years when they are completely free and clear of their abuser that they can finally share their story.
With that in mind, I stirred up the emotions and accepted a role on the Real Life Network to have a radio show. It was soon that I parted ways from the Real Life Network and took my platform to new heights with so very many stories from survivors of domestic violence, human trafficking, cancer, and more!
It was amazing as I interviewed the survivors, there were some common threads -- perseverance, determination, focus, strength, and so much more.
I had taken a hiatus for many years, but I am ready to take it on again, in differing forms.
Now, in 2020, I am seeing the journey of BEYOND WORDS LIVE! to take on stories from a wider range of folks -- survivors (of course), immigrants, family geneaology, and more.
Click on each of the different pages to find how you, too, can contribute to my collection of stories that I may share in a future podcast or article/book publication.
