The Illuminate Coffee Bar is a place we have been meeting since December 2019. The COVID19 pandemic changed things for us and we couldn't meet there. Hopefully, we will be able to return to this location for coffee and conversation (and brainstorming) after the stay-at-home orders are lifted.
I began Community Faith Outreach as a simple project among a group of my friends I've known throughout the years (and beyond as far back as my high school days). We were exploring the different social good things that have been happening around the world.
As 2020 came upon us, I desired to take it to whole 'nother level -- shifting the thought process from merely thinking about these community efforts into a doing. What I have found that people have been grateful for those doing, but not as anxious to doing it themselves.
We started in December 2019 meeting at Illuminate Coffee Bar in the Anderson Mill area of Austin, Texas, on Mondays from noon until 1:30. A few people came regularily to brainstorm, but with the advent of the COVID-19 virus, we had to stay-at-home. We turned to the Zoom and GoToMeeting platforms within the last few weeks - but few came. I am determined to have this discussion; hence, the reason I'm adding this to my website as well.
Please go to the Community Faith Outreach group on Facebook and Meetup for details on the platform links to attend. I'm looking forward to hearing more ideas and suggestions on how we can create new ways for us "Stepping Up" to the plate. Post COVID-19 is likely going to look differently than what we have been doing in the past. "Let's talk!" as the famed Joan Rivers would say!!
Ask yourself: "Who would be the people who would be worse off if my role didn't exist? Those are the people who give your job meaning. We become most resilient when other people count on us." ~ Adam Grant, organizational psychologist [We can easily subsitute the word "volunteering" into the role/job, because it isn't always work when we do things that we love to do! ~ Kat Davis]
