I'm an oceanographer working on my PhD at the University of British Columbia in beautiful Vancouver, Canada, where I also completed a master's in oceanography in 2023.
I'm really interested in the impact of physical systems on ecology, particularly at regional or local scales where I can get into the nitty-gritty and feel like I really get to know a place. I use a variety of numerical simulations and observations to study this, with the relationship between these two analysis methods being exciting for bridging the challenging modelling jump from physics to biology. Public outreach and education is super important to me, good science is accessible, great science can be inspiring - I get a lot of joy out of motivating people to care as much about the ocean as I do.
I would like to acknowledge that I have the privilege to work and live on the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. I am eternally grateful for their stewardship of this land and waters. I encourage those who have not already done so to read the 94 calls to action, and if you're a scientist too, to think about how reconciliation can be incorporated into your research.
