Students learn about the meaningful contributions that diverse scholars have made to the STEM disciplines historically.

• Scientist Spotlight Homework Assignments Shift Students’ Stereotypes of Scientists and Enhance Science Identity in a Diverse Introductory Science Class article describing how to use Scientist Spotlight assignments in science course.

• Website with example scientists to use in a variety of disciplines- Scientist Spotlights Initiative.

• Include diverse scientists as central figures within the course.

• Invite diverse sets of speakers (different cultural, linguistic, gendered, religious, economic, ability) to showcase different perspectives in STEM.

• Project Diversify is a repository of teaching materials aimed at enhancing human diversity and inclusivity in biology courses.

Scholars of various underrepresented backgrounds are introduced to present multiple current perspectives within the STEM field.

• Diverse scientists spreadsheet crowd sourced list of diverse scientists, including activities and assignments. 

• Introduce how diverse scholars have applied STEM knowledge to address local and global issues.

• I am a Scientist: The Story and Science of Real-world Scientists website. Includes scientist stories, posters, and slide presentations, materials are downloadable or can be ordered.

• Share stories about how diverse scholars have developed STEM knowledge.

• The History Makers: The Digital Repository for the Black Experience with section on science history makers.

• The Underrepresentation Curriculum Project lesson Why does representation matter? Goal of lesson is to engage in conversations about the relevance of underrepresentation in science and how a scientists’ background may influence the science they study.
