The Maxcine Haymon Lowe Library

Welcome to the Maxcine Haymon Lowe Library Media Center!

We are located at the entrance of the school, and our hours are as follows:

7:35 to 4:30, Monday/Wednesday/Thursday/Friday

7:35 to 4:00 Tuesday

Teachers are invited to schedule their classes or send individual students to use the library throughout the day (with the exception of Reading Group Instruction).

Mission Statement:  The Maxcine Haymon Lowe Library exists to empower all stakeholders of Bethune Middle School to be critical, effective, and ethical users of digital information, and to foster a lifelong love of reading for pleasure and knowledge.

Objectives: 

Bethune students will be information and digital leaders.

All students will

• know how to access books of their choice from the Maxcine Haymon Lowe Library, classroom libraries and public libraries.

• have access to their LAPL Student Success Cards and know how to check out digital books.

• be able to access reading material on a variety of other digital reading platforms such as MyOn, Epic, and Sora

• know the steps to research a topic of their choice

• know how to access and assess reliable information online

• understand how to use a variety of digital platforms to present information

• be knowledgeable about the benefits and consequences of internet usage
