Brookhaven National Lab (BNL) Student Partnerships for Advanced Research and Knowledge (SPARK):
Bethpage High School is part of the BNL SPARK program, a program that provides an opportunity for all high school students and their science educators to become visiting researchers to Brookhaven National Laboratory’s scientific facilities.
Students in grades 10 - 12 can participate in the program, with teacher approval. Students must be at least 15 years old. During the first year in the program, students are required to work in a team. After the first year, students can choose to work in a team or individually.
Students who participate in the program are expected to:
Attend monthly virtual meetings (they typically start at 7 pm)
Complete and submit BNL-specific research plan to be reviewed by BNL scientists
Attend field trips to BNL to collect and analyze data
Students can have access to the following BNL facilities:
The National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS-II)
XFM
SRX
TES
FIS
XPD
