I have been an educator as long as I can remember; it just took me a while to figure it out for myself. As a child, I loved playing school with my younger brother. In college, I worked as a math tutor. After graduating from Azusa Pacific University, I joined the Peace Corps, where I worked with students and teachers in rural African schools. After I returned to the U.S., I worked for an Outdoor Science School where I met my husband. After several years, I saw the arc of my job experience leaning heavily toward education. I returned to APU to earn a Master's degree and Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. I taught for several years in a traditional fifth-grade classroom. I put that aside when my children were born, but started teaching again, this time as a home educator, which I still do today. I have worked with middle school youth through my church and have helped facilitate homeschool co-ops. Starting this business, Beth Bellinder Learning, is the next step of my journey. I get to teach science (the most fun subject ever!) and work with students.
I strongly believe science should be fun! It should be hands-on and interactive. You should see, hear, smell, and do science, not just read about it. I also believe that students who struggle with reading and writing can succeed in science. I've seen so many students that are jaded and not excited about science by the time they reach middle school. Science should not be a drudgery! My goal is to challenge them in a way that gets them excited about science! I don't take this task lightly and I thank you for considering allowing me to take part in their educational development!
