Bye Bye Wetland

I am writing this last news of the Bethany Wetland instead of Steve.

Steve and I enjoyed living next to the Bethany Wetland from 2018 to 2023.  We have seen and definitely heard the coyotes.  The trail cam Steve installed in the wetland also captured the coyotes and their young.

I would sometimes accompany Steve in the Fall into the wetland.

We have seen cute rabbits, in the beginning, lots of them and not too many after the coyote pups arrived.

We smelled the skunk for a couple years before it moved away to greener pastures.

We saw the cottonwoods fall one by one, and a dead tree in the wetland in front of our balcony gave in to the last wind storm.  We saw the creek find its natural channel in the wetland and changed the wetland back into its natural state.

I have taken many many wonderful photos of sunrise, sunsets, and clouds from the balcony to share with families and friends.

Our pseudo granddaughter Lucy (my cousin’s grandchild) was not yet 2 when we moved into our house on Aberdeen Drive.  She was so little, I had to carry her upstairs so she could look down onto the lower level. She was so fascinated by it.  Later she could crawl up the stairs and slide down on her bottom to go back downstairs.

The last time Lucy was in our house, she was 7.  She knew we would be moving and she will never be in the Aberdeen house again.   She slid down the stairs on her bottom and on her way out the door, she said “bye bye house; bye bye house….” She said this all the way from the house to her parent’s car.

Steve and I thought we would write a short note on the wetland like Lucy did on her last visit to our house.  So, we say “Bye Bye Wetland.”  The wetland was something we really enjoyed.

May you all have a great 2024.
