We are currently developing a dynamic, combined rigid body - finite element model of the human knee. The model allows for muscle driven investigations of the effect of various human movements on articular cartilage as well as meniscal loading.
In the future, we plan to use the model to compare meniscal stress, for simple tasks like flexion and everyday tasks like gait patterns, between healthy as well as injured menisci. This could potential help to better understand meniscal injuries and improve treatment as well as prevention methods.
