Leverage

Details & Examples

The Leverage MountBlank (No. 22-281) is used to support objects with cylindrical or oval-section shafts angled up from the deck. It consists of two brass straps soldered one above the other on opposite sides of a sturdy rod. The opposing straps work on the principle of leverage: the upper strap holding the underside of the artifact, the lower strap wrapping up and over.

Examples: Spoon & Shears

Here are an unshaped Leverage MountBlank, two objects we want to display and their finished, padded mounts.

  1. Very heavy metal shears.

  2. Lightweight wooden-handled spoon.

  3. Leverage MountBlank shaped to receive the spoon.

  4. Leverage MountBlank shaped and painted out to receive the shears.

  5. Leverage MountBlank.

Close-up of mount: Here we see the Leverage Mount without the spoon in place. I have left the mount unpainted to make it more visible for you.

This angle shows the under / over tabs very clearly.

Close-up of mounted spoon: Now we see the spoon in place. This mount is the essence of "float." Again the mount has yet to be painted, although it has been padded with our adhesive-backed polyfilm.

This shows the spoon on the Leverage Mount seen from the side. This illusion is a lot of fun. Of course, your artifact must be in good shape
