Belmont Soils 2020 International Scholars Program

Name of Applicant: Tasi-Jung Jiang (Aaron), PhD Student, Dept. of Biological Resource, NPUST

International Host: Dr. Pankaj Kumar, Senior Policy Researcher, IGES, Japan

Duration of International Visit: 3 months (9/15/2022- 12/15/2022)

Belmont Project Affiliation: Belmont Taiwan Team - ABRESO Abandonment and rebound: Societal views on landscape- and land-use change and their impacts on water and soils (under supervision of Taiwan Co-PI Dr. Herlin Chien at NPUST)

Mission: To learn WEAP model and apply both Taiwan and Japan data for simulation.

Water Evaluation and Planning System (WEAP) model was developed by Stockholm Environment Institute and actively applied by Dr. Kumar at IGES, Japan. This model’s functionality enables researchers to generate various scenario building, necessary to answer “what-if” questions for the policy and decision makers. Based on the key data managmenet method proposed by Kumar et al. (2021), Aaron will rearrange data collected in Taiwan and fit into the WEAP model for scenario building while comparing data with Japan's team.
