Belodus wykoffensis Stauffer, 1935

1935 Belodus wykoffensis n. sp. - Stauffer, pag. 604, Plate 72, fig. 51, 52, 55, 58, 59.

Original description - Base thin, nearly flat on both sides, although with slight off-set below mid-dental line on outer side. Except for abrupt change in curvature near proximal end, base regularly curved, tapering to a point at distal end; proximal end expanded on upper side into smooth heel; between heel and tip of base 5 or 6, possibly more, sub-equal denticles crowded or wedged into upper side of bar.

Excavation limited to proximal end, in form of two flattened conical cavities almost completely separated from each other; lower extends into base nearly half its length.

Occurrence - Lower part of the Decorah Shale, along county road 2,5 miles NW of Spring Grove, Minnesota, U. S. A.; Lower part of the Decorah Shale, along county highway 2,5 miles north of Wykoff, 62 feet above top of Glenwood beds, Minnesota, U. S. A.; 6 miles NW of Chatfield, along highway 52, from oolitic layers 34.5 feet above base of the Decorah Shale, Minnesota, U. S. A.; 2 miles north of Fountain, along highway 52, 30 feet above base of the Decorah Shale and just below iron stained oolitic bed, Minnesota, U. S. A. (Stauffer, 1935).

Age range - Ordovician (Stauffer, 1935).
