Librarian

Mrs. Heather Wood is the District Librarian for the Bellevue CSD.  She spends her mornings at the Elementary library and her afternoons at the MSHS library.  Beginning her undergraduate journey at the University of Northern Iowa, she transferred to Iowa State to get her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education.  She taught 3rd grade and was a substitute in the Des Moines, Iowa area before moving to Bellevue in 2017.  She was a substitute teacher in the Bellevue CSD and an associate at Dubuque Lutheran School before beginning her library journey.  Starting as an associate in the elementary building, she quickly discovered that the library was her "school home".  She became the associate in the MSHS library a few months, later, then...COVID-19.  With the encouragement of her family, she continued her academic journey and completed her Masters degree in School Library Studies through UNI in August 2022.  She is now a State of Iowa, Board of Educational Examiners certified School Librarian!

In her free time, she enjoys gardening, reading (of course), the Packers and fishing.  She is married with three adult children, a middle schooler and two grandchildren, with two more little blessings arriving in April 2023!!  She also has two German Shorthair Pointers, that think they are children.  Her favorite things are putting books into student's hands and having those students come back for more of her recommendations...Mrs. Wood doesn't recommend bad books:)

Mrs.Wood is a member of the IASL, Iowa Association of School Librarians (an affiliate of the Iowa Library Association) and  AASL, American Association of School Librarians, an affiliate of American Library Association.  She is also the Bellevue High School National Honor Society Sponsor.
