Welcome to my website!

Hi!

My name is Belinda, and I am an autistic glass artist based in Northamptonshire. My love for working with glass started during my degree. I studied Design Crafts at De Montfort University, and initially I was scared to work with the material as I can be quite clumsy. However from the first time I worked with the molten material, I fell in love with the process. Over the 3 years of my degree, I have worked with kiln formed and blown glass and these are the areas of glass that I continue to work with today.

Whilst I was in my third year, I discovered through extensive research the ways in which you can weave glass and this instantly caught my attention. I wanted to be creative as much as possible and as time in the hot shop was shared between all students who wanted to specialize in glass, I decided to use my spare time to look in to perfecting this process. However, due to Covid-19 my third year time in the workshops was shorter than I would have loved, so this became the foundation of what would go on to be my residency place on the Design Crafts course.

Over the past several months, I have managed to make several successful weaves which I have picked back up in the glass blowing studio (aka the hotshop) as well as learning to blow more delicate pieces. The experience of my residency is one that I will always treasure, as working with our incredible glass technical instructor has pushed my work to heights I wouldn't have thought was possible when coming up with these ideas over a year ago!

However, as my time at De Montfort has started drawing to a close, it is time for me to take the next step in my career and set up my own little business! This has been a dream of mine for quite some time, and even though it is a little scary to set up a business, I am really looking forward to what the future has in store.
