Curriculum

A comprehensive school counseling program requires school counselors to develop core curriculum, small group and individual lessons as needed. The core curriculum at BEJ is designed around a needs assessment given at the beginning of each year and leads to a culturally responsive curriculum that combines school counseling and classroom content and focuses on students academic, social-emotional and career needs. For the 2020-2021 school year, our core is centered around three units: self-awareness, self-control and conflict resolution. There are also specific weeks each year that add to our core services, such as Red Ribbon Week, Random Acts of Kindness Week, and College and Career Week. Below, BEJ's year-long counseling curriculum map shows how each NC Guidance Essential Standard is covered through a student's K-5 education span.
