Workshop/event, "Water is Everything"!
The "Water is Everything" event was organized to highlight the effects of climate change on water resources.
The students created materials such as costumes and maracas from plastic waste to explain the critical importance of water. In addition, they learned about the value of different water resources and the need to protect them through water tasting. These activities aimed to raise social awareness by emphasizing the effects of climate change on water.
The students also were introduced to the Zero Waste project, raising addition awareness on the protection of water resources and combating climate change.
In order to draw attention to the importance of freshwater resources and to ensure that the focus is on sustainable management of these resources, we, as Keşan Anatolian High School, celebrated World Water Day on March 22.
Keşan Anatolian High School, with the slogan "Worth Every Drop";
*Keşan Anatolian High School students visited the Kadıköy Drinking Water Treatment Plant.
*Keşan Anatolian High School students visited the Keşan Wastewater Treatment Plant.
*Water-themed posters were prepared.
*Models depicting the water cycle were designed.
*The causes of water pollution in Erikli, Keşan, were investigated and a billboard study was carried out.
*Arainwater collection prototype was created.
*Tunca and Meriç River on-site observation study
*Drinkable Water Resources Mapping Study
As part of the Natural Sciences course, 7th grade students from the Cristelo School had a guided field trip to the Lustosa Landfill and the Cristelo Sorting Center (Ecocentro)
Convinced that the classroom can sometimes be limiting when it comes to teaching certain subjects, particularly those related to environmental issues, the school gave students the opportunity to visit these two facilities, which are dedicated to waste collection, treatment, and management in the Sousa Valley, and to learn from professionals in these sectors.
At the Lustosa Sorting Station, students were able to observe and follow the entire operation of the separation circuit, which comes from selective collection. After sorting, the recoverable material is stored and then forwarded through the Packaging Waste Management Entities. Throughout this circuit, the students asked questions and clarified doubts, as well as curiosities that arose.
At the Cristelo Ecocenter, guided by the monitor, they visited the facilities and had the opportunity to visit the briquette factory, which results from the use of wood waste from furniture production. These briquettes are used in the future to heat the municipality's school network.
This activity proved to be an excellent learning opportunity in an outdoor context and extremely enriching, as it allowed students to reflect on their everyday behavior, raising their awareness of sustainable and more environmentally friendly practices. It also allowed them to become more informed about environmental issues, teaching them that, with simple gestures, we can make a difference every day and make a real contribution to the sustainability of our planet.
It is in “our hands” to manage waste correctly in order to avoid “consuming” landfill space.
