While I have a strong foundation in acting, the courses at Howard have helped expand my creativity and leadership skills, strengthen my knowledge on the history of Black artists and theatre, and develop a passion for collaboration.

In the future, I want to wake up every day and love what I do. I love creating with other artists and bringing people together through art. At the beginning of my career, I hope to act in plays and films that help change the narrative of black women. I want the projects I work on to include three-dimensional black characters that reflect the diversity in the black community. Behind the stage and screen, I want to communicate and collaborate with the directors and writers about the play/film to bring forth original work.

In addition to acting, I want to eventually write, produce and star in my own romance movie. I love romance movies, but there aren’t many that have authentic black female and male leads. Growing up, I never saw films with women who looked like me go through anything “normal”, and I want to change that. So to write and produce a relatable and realistic black romance movie would be a dream come true.

Eventually, I want to open my own theater company. I want to give back to the community, especially to little kids. The theater programs I attended as a kid have significantly impacted my artistic journey. I would love to be the artistic director and oversee the work of the theater. I want to use my leadership and creative skills in a professional setting, not just acting. I wish to bring theatre to communities where theatre isn’t as accessible.
