Beauty standards are society's idea of the physical features of a perfect man or woman. These standards have become unreasonable. The only way they could be possible is through Photoshop, editing, and hours of dedication at the gym. All people are executed for any imperfections that they may have physically no matter how small. Most recently people have been raising awareness and making a change by spreading body positivity.
The idea of beauty standards can take a toll on one's mental health, and it does. There is what is called body image, which is how people see their bodies. People are often influenced by family, friends, or the media. People could either have a negative or positive perception of their bodies. A positive outlook would be that the certain person is overall confident of their looks. They do not compare themselves or worry about other physical features about themselves. Those who have a negative outlook are very troubled with the way they look. They feel like they are not enough compared to others. They are concerned about their physical features. This negative thinking can lead to mental illnesses such as eating disorders, depression, and anxiety. which could also turn into isolation and very low confidence. In reply, people feel as if they need to change themselves to look like what they see on TV.
Because of all the expectations built up by the community of an "ideal body," it leaves many feelings like they are not enough. Some of the standards made are impossible to reach and it forms a problem within yourself. You constantly just want to be "like the others." In today's modern world, social media has shaped this. In media, there is a lot of editing that goes on behind the scenes to make people look like they do for the world to see. People are under the influence that that is the only correct way to look. However, this is not true whatsoever. After you are left feeling as if you are not enough it all goes downhill from here.
