Bear Canyon Trail Crew

Our group is dedicated to maintaining the Bear Canyon Trail in the Angeles National Forest. This 5 mile trail traverses the front range of the San Gabriel Mountains connecting the Gabrielino National Recreation Trail with the Mt. Lowe Fire Road.

Starting from the junction with the Gabrielino Trail near Switzer Falls, the trail drops down to the Arroyo Seco for 1 mile then turns east and follows up Bear Canyon to a trail camp. From the camp the trail continues another mile then climbs up to Tom Sloan Saddle where there is a junction with the Tom Sloan Trail. It then climbs another steep mile up the ridge to end at the Mt. Lowe Fire Road.

Much of the trail is in a beautiful canyon bottom with alder, oak, maple and bay trees. Due to its location in a narrow canyon, flooding and tree falls are major problems.

Our work is focused on making the trail passable for hikers. It is not recommended for equestrians or bicycles due to very rough conditions.

We welcome you to join us!
