AKARA
One of Nigeria's favourite deep fried snack, akara, is a popular breakfast meal made with brown or black-eyed beans and spices. The preparation of akara follows a relatively simple process. It's all about getting the right texture and taste from the beans mixed with the ingredients.
HOW TO PREPARE?
BEANS FLOUR BY FORA (2 cups)
1.5 cup warm water
Chopped onions
Red pepper (roughly blend)
Seasoning
Ginger+ Garlic powder or (Fresh and peeled)
Measure beans powder in bowl.
Blend roughly or chop your onions, and pepper if using fresh
If using dry ground pepper, mix with little water to form a paste
Add 1 cup warm water and combine
Add pepper and chopped onions to beans powder. Whisk to combine.
Add garlic,ginger, crayfish powder, salt and seasoning according to your preference
Whisk together to combine and incorporate air.
Pour into blender cup.
Allow to soak for some minutes
Blend for maximum of 1 minute to incorporate air and prep your oil.
Oil should be in a fairly deep pan, so that your akara can come out as balls and not flat.
Oil should be hot enough to fry the balls outside. But not too hot so that the inside gets cooked before the outside burnsÂ
