Not to be confused with the similarly named island in Sorrento, Maine, Bean Island is a local landmark in Natick enclosed within Dug Pond. It is a small, uninhabited and wooded island that becomes a popular hangout spot for locals during the summer months. It features a few ropeswings, hiking trails, and is adjacent to a sandbar in the pond.
FUN FACT: The island was named Bean Island because the surrounding area was supposedly used to grow beans by indigenous people long before the colonial era.
If you plan to bring any food or drink, please bring all trash home with you or dispose of it in one of the many town-provided trash bins on the island.
It is unlawful to start campfires on Bean Island. Please refrain from doing so to protect the island and its wildlife.
This photo was taken on the Southern coast of the island.
