Taking care of your tattoo properly is the key to keeping it bright, clean, and healing beautifully. Follow these steps from the moment you leave the studio until your tattoo is fully healed.
Your artist will wrap your tattoo to protect it.
Leave the wrap on for the time your artist recommends
Avoid touching the area
Keep it clean and protected on your way home
Your tattoo is an open wound at this stage — treat it gently.
Once you remove the wrap, it’s time for the first clean.
Wash your hands first
Use lukewarm water and a fragrance‑free antibacterial soap
Gently clean away plasma, ink residue, and ointment
Pat dry with a clean paper towel — don’t rub
Cleanliness is everything in the first 48 hours.
Your tattoo needs moisture, but not too much.
Apply a thin layer of a tattoo‑safe aftercare cream
Don’t smother it — your skin needs to breathe
Repeat 2–3 times a day
Over‑moisturising can cause irritation, so keep it light.
Healing happens in stages.
Days 1–3: Redness, tenderness, slight swelling
Days 3–7: Light scabbing, dryness
Days 7–14: Peeling and flaking (like a sunburn)
Weeks 2–4: Skin settles and colour evens out
This is all normal — your skin is repairing itself.
These are the big ones.
No picking or scratching — it causes scarring
No soaking (baths, swimming, hot tubs)
No sun exposure — UV destroys fresh ink
No heavy sweating on the area
No tight clothing rubbing against the tattoo
If it itches, tap it gently — don’t scratch.
Help your tattoo breathe.
Wear loose, clean clothing
Avoid anything that sticks to the tattoo
Keep pets away from the area
Friction slows healing and can damage the design.
Once healed, protect your investment.
Use high‑SPF sunscreen on your tattoo
Keep your skin moisturised
Avoid harsh exfoliants directly on the tattoo
Good aftercare = long‑lasting colour.
Reach out if you notice:
Excessive redness or swelling
Pus or unusual discharge
A rash or severe itching
Anything that feels “not right”
It’s always better to ask than guess.
