"Evaluation of tutoring during the first semester - Anatomy
Angela Vizi is an anatomy tutor that has provided me with extracurricular work designed to enhance my knowledge in anatomy. I was first introduced to her through one of her anatomy workshops. The workshop is a double-lesson in anatomy taught by Angela to small groups of students at the time. It is a more affordable option as each student only pays half price compared to when having a single session. The groups of each workshop is small enough to allow Angela to help every student through the session. During these lessons we are provided with print of the relevant body parts for that lesson so that we can take notes and bring them home afterwards.
Angela also offer private anatomy lessons. During these it is clear that Angela’s goal is to meet the needs of the student, and she often has ideas for how to improve the efficiency of the studying in preparation for exams by the end of the semester. Therefore I would recommend to start having lessons with her regularly from early in the semester, as it is an opportunity to achieve a profound understanding in the subjects anatomy, histology and embryology.
For me, the most important help Angela provided was patience as well as answers to my questions from class or from when studying on my own. When I had time to prepare for our lessons and write down every detail that, to me, was unclear she would always be happy to let me revise it over again with her until I knew it.
Other times, when I was not so prepared for our lessons, she would know what to focus on due to being well updated on the curriculum according to my year, and upcoming exam. This was also important mentally as it would be helpful when the workload became too overwhelming and knowing where to start would seem impossible.
The figures and charts provided has been an important part of my lessons with Angela. The excessive use of color coordination to make it easier memorize and systemize difficult systems in the body has also been a good tool for me. To sum it up I would say she does three different things in order to teach histology, embryology and anatomy. Where in histology she helps us recognize and remember. In embryology she explains step by step, and in anatomy she systemizes the different parts.
Nonetheless she provides support for the students that she is teaching, and takes the time to provide us with a pep-talk if needed be."
"I went to Angela to make sure I was prepared the best for my anatomy exam. She was extremely helpful, she tested me on the topics of the exam and went through any aspect I was weak on to ensure I got the best mark possible. Worked great as a review session and as a bit or reassurance before the exam. I would highly recommend Angela as a anatomy tutor."
"My name is Edward and I'm currently a 2nd year Medicine student. I can highly recommend Angela as the best anatomy tutor in Budapest. I had some issues trying to pass 2nd semester material, but she has made me feel so confident. Her method of teaching is extremely intuitive and makes anatomy enjoyable. I felt well prepared for my upcoming exams thanks to her help. Her command of English is perfect for international students. I would highly recommend her for all students."
"The decision of taking consultations to prepare for the finals of second year was the best desicion I made. With the help of Angela I was able to be much more efficient, cover hard material in shorter time. I saved many hours, and days thanks to Angela. She is an excellent teacher and made the more challenging topics seem clear and easy. She also not just gave me alot of extra material, but we also went through them together. If you want to feel more comfodent, save time, stress less and succsess and do great in your exams I recommend her consultations."
"After contemplating for quite some time how to start or what to write in my “evaluation” of Angela, I came to the conclusion that I will take a simplistic approach. The best thing about Angela is that she is human—and I do not write this with any malice or disrespect to her. Allow me to explain. I have struggled with Anatomy for longer than I’m willing to admit, but to be completely blunt, she was the best teacher I (or anyone else) could ask for.
All too often, I have had teachers (private and SOTE teachers), and the common theme I frequently stumbled across was that the teachers are not humans but robots. They come into the class, talk for the entire duration of the class (and frequently I wonder how they find time to breath—although since we are at a medical university, perhaps they have surgically altered their respiratory system to not interfere with their speaking), overload the students with useless or mundane or irrelevant facts to show how smart and intelligent THEY are, or are so disinterested in what they are teaching/lecturing about that the entire class is sleeping—or worse, simply doesn’t attend.
Angela’s strength is that she has developed a unique strategy for students to learn, understand, and master anatomy. This is not at all to say that she “dumbs it down” for those students who seek additional help. But, in a nutshell, from my experience it is clear that she ensures that her students learn and begin with a strong foundation. Initially, Angela focuses on the most important and necessary facts and topics. Subsequently, she adds more relevant and essential facts on top of what you have already learned. In this way, and metaphorically speaking, you being to build a house from a strong foundation, structural support beams, floors, walls, etc. Only once this is achieved does she go back to fill in the more detailed points that are not understandable without the strong skeleton (for example painting walls, adding carpets, buying furniture, etc. in accordance with the house building theme).
The lessons/classes are held in her professional and well equipped office. She has bones, skulls, a complete human skeleton, a microscope, and ample room for you to spread out your notes and books in a comfortable, yet educationally oriented environment. Additionally, Angela has numerous drawings and study tools that highlight the essentials one needs in order to master anatomy. It is clear that the aids have thoughtfully and meticulously been prepared by her. Angela also emphasizes the importance of continual repetition and review of the material that you have previously learned (a point that is frequently overlooked, forgotten, or all together neglected by students). This is also essential for really learning the material, not just reading it once and forgetting it.
In conclusion, I would like to return to my initial point that she is human: Angela is a teacher who actually cares. All too often, instructors are so enveloped in their own interests (and even ego), that they lose sight of the true reason they are there: to teach and help the student learn new and challenging topics. Furthermore, Angela also does an excellent job of building self-confidence in her students—which I think is often the core issue (rather than not knowing enough) that hinders students from shinning and being successful… and often teachers at this university are much better at destroying self-confidence than building it (much less teaching). This of course is not to say that if you are not serious about learning or passing anatomy, Angela will wave her magic wand and your first wish will be granted. You will have to work, and work hard… and my advice is to TRUST in her and follow her advice because she sincerely knows what she is doing and how to teach you. So irrespective of if you are student who is on the fence between passing and failing or reaching your goal of a 4 or a 5, Angela will undoubtedly be able to help you. I can only give her my highest recommendation and thanks for what she has done for me."
