Be solution to Pollution

Our goal is to enrich the knowledge and awareness of the prevention of pollutants that affect our environment, because we want to achieve a livable environment for future generations. Also some of our goals are to acquire different recycling techniques and practices, develop linguistic and cultural comprehension, improve ICT skills and improve English language skills.

ERASMUS CORNERS

The Erasmus Corners are ready in our centers.

1st ERASMUS VIRTUAL MEETING

Here, some photos of the first Virtual Meeting for some of our students. We had a really good time getting to know each other better, presenting interesting material and activities we are doing and…annoucing the winning logo! Anxious for next meeting!

VIRTUAL MOBILITY

Fresh news from the ERASMUS+ Project! Last week from May our students from IE Pallerola joined the first European Mobility with our partners. They were super excited! The first day they worked together in order to plan the activities; it was a big challenge because they were going to meet them online for the first time the following day.

During those days they learned about different types of pollution. Portugal students are in charge of explaining the Soil Pollution, Turkey is in charge of Light Pollution, Finland is in charge of Noise Pollution, Hungary is in charge of Air Pollution and finally our students from IE Palerola are the Water Pollution experts due to our privileged environment by the river Tordera and Mediterranian Sea.

Their portuguese partners taught them how to build a birdcage using recycled materials and they followed the instructions to do so. They did lots of different activities: vocabulary in the mother tongues of their partners, a school tour to get to know the facilities and, most important; they used English to communicate! They realised the languages enable them to learn and get to know other cultures and people in real life out of the classroom. It was a wonderful experience because even being apart they were working together.

IE Pallerola students are Water Pollution experts and they presented the activities they were working on through the school year. Even though it’s a virtual mobility due to COVID situation we expect to see each other face to face very, very soon.

ERASMUS TEACHERS' MEETING IN SPAIN

Be the Solution to Water Pollution

Last 6th and 7th September, the Erasmus team of the project Be Solution to Pollution met in Spain.

The teachers involved in the project came from their countries, Hungary, Turkey and Portugal (Finland team could not travel because of Covid restrictions) to meet the Spanish team in Lloret de Mar who had organized a training in Xatrac Sea School. The aim was to learn about the impact of pollution on marine biodiversity. This knowledge is going to be transferred to our students in the science lessons and in May, some students are going to visit us to share solutions and try to contribute somehow to the problem of water pollution. Besides, it will also be an incredible opportunity for our Spanish students to host foreign pupils and improve their English skills.

During the course, many more activities will take place within the framework of our Erasmus+ project Be Solution to Pollution.

CLEAN UP

A very important lesson this project is teaching us all is the importance of preserving the environment. Here we have 1stESO students from IE Pallerola in a Clean-up morning.

CHANGE IT or REUSE IT

With the project Be solution to Pollution we are learning how to reuse waste or give a new use to something we would throw it away. Here you have some examples.

In the first Virtual Mobility, the Portuguese pupils taught us how to create a nest box.

NEW IE PALLEROLA PROJECT: PiEFcitos

Here we have another SOLUTION to our school POLLUTION, the project PiEFcitos. This project has been driven by the necessity of reducing waste, mainly from our breakfast wrappers, and also foostering heathly routines such as the physical activity and reading habits among students. All monitored by the PE teacher, Alexis Hortelano.

You can check the project website clicking on the image below.

OUR PLASTIC FOOTPRINT

After researching our plastic footprint, some students created wonderful videos giving solutions to reduce waste.

PLASTIC FISHES    +

ST. JORDI literary contest

IE Pallerola participated in the project PLASTIC FISHERS from the UVic (University of Vic), collecting waste by the river Tordera and studying how polluted it is. Then, they sent our results to them.

Buuuuut, that was not the end of the activity, we decided to create "characters" who became the protagonists of the short stories they wrote for the Saint George Literary Contest🌹 . You can see an example in the following video: The power of Hope

RECYCLING CORNERS

The technology teacher designed with her 3rd ESO pupils, these beautiful recycling bins to have recycling corners in all our classes. They have been made with the wooden boxes of fruit from our school canteen, so this time, once the fruit was eaten, instead of throwing them away, they have been given another use. Isn't this fantastic?!!?

AIR Pollution Experts

In Portugal, they are on their way to become experts on air pollution. Their school has installed a particle sensor in the playground that is already working. It measures particulate matter to assess air pollution. Look!

LAMPS

Our Erasmus corner is full of light!💡

In the technology classes, the 3rd ESO students, after studying the electrical circuit, have designed beautiful lamps with recycling materials.  Keep on reusing waste (shoe boxes, cardboard, magazines...), good job!

MOBILITY: PORTUGAL

Here we have some video summaries of our week in Guimaraes.

Fantastic people, interesting activities, wonderful city, delicious Portuguese food, unforgettable moments...An amazing experience!

VEGETABLE GARDENS in our Schools

Thanks to the Erasmus+ BE SOLUTION TO POLLUTION project, IE Pallerola can have a vegetable garden again!

We are so happy to have the funds to create our own garden in which all the school pupils, from the little ones to the teenagers can help planting, watering... Obviously, it is going to be totally ecological avoiding any kind of soil pollution with pesticides or chemical ferlizers. All eco-friendly!!!!!!!!!

PORTUGAL MEETING in the Local Media

ONE MORE YEAR, we become PLASTIC FISHERS

Again, the IE Pallerola students become Plastic Fishers participanting in the UVic programme to analyse the quality of the water in our river Tordera.

SPAIN MOBILITY: Nice to meet you

This is the Padlet we have created to get to know each other before the visit. It has been a fantastic tool to start getting in contact!

TURKISH MOBILITY

This week five pupils of my class have traveled to Adana, Turkey. It was one of the best experiences we've ever had.

Our journey starts on Monday 21, we took a taxi and started our experience traveling to a country that we were all unaware of. Our plane from Barcelona to Istanbul was delayed, so to make the staircase we had to run so we didn't lose the flight, they looked crazy running to get there.

We did a lot of activities, we went to school in the first few days and we were greeted with a typical dance from Turkey, we showed up and they visited us all through school, and at night we had a great party where we had a lot of fun and dancing. It has to be said that the people at school treated us very well, from the first minute they made us feel at home. The next few days we visited Adana, entered a beautiful mosque, went to a planetarium where we watched the stars, went to see a botanical garden, and enjoyed activities such as planting a tree and doing sports typical of Adana. Thursday, we took a bus to Cappadocia, where what we did was visit the whole area and we entered caves with a lot of history, it wasn't a good time so we couldn't see the balloons off, but we enjoyed it anyway.

We stayed asleep in a hotel and the next day we rode a horse, without a doubt riding a horse with those views has been an experience that we will never forget and many more activities. The culture is quite different from that of Spain, the food was very different, but we have to understand that what they put the most there are species, but in general everything is very good.

The trip to Turkey has been a great opportunity to be able to relate to people from other countries, to be able to practice English and to know more about other parts of the world. We want to thank Cristina and all the organizers of L'Erasmus for giving us this great opportunity to meet great people and to know the cultures of other countries.

MOBILITY TO Finland

From the 5th to the 10th February 2023, our students have taken part in an Erasmus mobility in Espoo (Finland). Again, it has been an amazing experience in which we have participated in many activities such as ice skating, workshops, walking in the snowy forest... The students have stayed with nice host families who treated them all as their our family members (thank you!)
