My family has made very irresponsible decisions while drunk. Driving while drunk should be a more punishable law in Los Angeles than it is now, instead of having driver licenses suspended drivers should have to retake a test and have to attend rehab for a few months to be able to drive again. Many drivers get saved the first time and because of the low consequences they choose to do it again because they were not punished hard the first time. Drivers think because they get away with it then they can continue to do it over and over again and until they are really put in a tough situation like injuring themselves or others then they choose to make a change, but it should never get to that point. According to Roma Paolo "Many road traffic crashes are caused by Driving Under the Influence (DUI) of alcohol by persons who have previously had their license suspended for the same reason." (Drinking and Driving Relapse), therefore it is drivers who think they can get away with drinking and driving and choose to do it over and over again. Enforcing the law more and making the consequences harder can be helpful and make it easier to choose to not drink and drive.
