By Plane

Located roughly twenty minutes away from the city center of Vienna, the Vienna International Airport offers various transport services to reach your destination within Austria.

To Linz: From the airport you can take a train to Linz Hauptbahnhof/Linz Main Train Station. A downloadable PDF of the ÖBB Railjet train schedules with departure from the airport is available. Travel duration to Linz from the airport is roughly 1 hour and 43 minutes. Tickets are available for purchase at the ÖBB terminals located before the train platforms.

The Linz airport is located twenty minutes from the city center. Coming from outside of Austria, most common direct flights to Linz are available from Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, and London. Transport services from the airport to the city center are available.

By Train

The Österreichische Bundesbahnen (ÖBB)/Austrian railway service and the Westbahn railway service offer transport options from the Viennese train stations to Linz Hauptbahnhof. Travel duration by train is roughly 1 hour and 20 minutes. There is frequent train service between Vienna and Linz.

The following main routes lead to Linz:

Via Munich, Salzburg, Vienna, Budapest: Motorway A1

Via Passau, Regensburg: Motorway A8

Via Prague: Motorway A7


Transport within Linz

Public transport in Linz consists of a network of buses and trams. This service is operated by Linz Linien of Linz AG. Tickets can be purchased at dedicated terminals.

Taxis are also available for hire.

Hauptbahnhof to ARS Electronica Center

Walking: 30 minutes directly through the idyllic city center of Linz.

Public Transport: you take the tram Lines 1, 2, and 3. These lines stop at the main train station and at the ARS Electronica Center. You can plan your route using Linz Linien website.

Taxis are located directly outside the main entrance to the train station.
