What is the Nature Intensive program?
The Nature Intensive is an advanced nature studies program for motivated seventh- and eighth-grade students who want to deepen their connection with the natural world. Each spring, students apply knowing the program will take them into the field to explore a wide range of topics, in diverse settings, and in all kinds of weather.
Participants are chosen not only for their ability to handle a heavier academic workload, but also for their curiosity, resilience, and commitment to a growth mindset—both outdoors and in the classroom. Central to the program is respect for the natural world, including our fellow human beings.
The Nature Intensive challenges students to step beyond their comfort zones while offering meaningful opportunities for discovery, connection, and growth. At its heart, the program teaches reciprocity—how to give back to the land with gratitude and appreciation, fostering a relationship with nature that is both thoughtful and enduring.
