In order to deliver the AP classes to our students, it is necessary for us to charge a fee. This is the same fee and policy at all ECSD high schools that offer AP. The fee, which will be shown on your child's schedule as the "AP Exam and Administration Fee" is $150. This is often misinterpreted to only cover the costs of the exams that the student will write. There is actually more to it than that, although this understandable since it is easy to focus on the exam that students write at the completion of their AP courses.
In addition to helping offset the cost of the AP exam, the fee is also to cover all the extra costs of the AP program (the administration of the AP classes). This can include, but is not limited to...
additional professional development for teachers
equipment, supplies, and texts that are specific to an AP class
additional software licences
Although each AP exam costs the school about $125, the total fee of $150 is all that will be paid, even if the student writes multiple exams.
Once we have finished the process of ordering our exams with the College Board, usually sometime in November for first semester classes and March for second semester classes, no refunds of the fee will be made even if a student drops out of the class.
