The two words gama [Running Game] and cara [Holding Game] existing in Manasollasa and Balabharata occur in the epic poem « Tri-Shashthi-Shalaka-Purusha-Charitra » (« The Sixty-Three Great Men ») composed by Hemacandra (1088-1172) between 1160 and 1172 [4.3.76] :
dhanamitro ‘nyada reme ‘ksadyutam balina samam
aksinabuddhivibhavo gamena ca carena ca
pattinam iva sarinam vadhabandhaparau mithah
vipancayamasatus tau dyutam ranam ivotkatam
One day Dhanamitra, the strength of whose intellect was undestroyed,
played aksadyutam with gama and cara with Bali.
Intent on the killing and blocking of each other’s men like soldiers,
they developed the game like a violent battle.
