Yan Shu asserts that Shuanglu did not originate in China but in India—known as Tianzhu 天竺 at the time—and dates its arrival in China to the Huangchu era (黄初, 220–226 AD), during the reign of Emperor Cao Pi of the Wei Kingdom, at the very beginning of the Three Kingdoms period.
始自天竺,即《涅槃经》之波罗塞戏。三国魏黄初间流入中国
It began in India, being the game prāsaka mentioned in the Nirvana Sutra. It was introduced into China during the Huangchu era of the Three Kingdoms.
