What is the 800 Club?
The 800 Club is a support group for people in Bishop's Castle, Clun, and the surrounding area who are carers for people living with dementia.
What does the name mean?
Formerly known as the Dementia Carers' Coffee Club, the initials DCCC become 800 when read as Roman numerals. It's just a bit easier to write in your diary!
What happens?
The club meets every month, usually on the first Monday, in Bishop's Castle. We share and discuss practical tips and advice for caring for someone with dementia. From legal practicalities such as Power of Attorney and wills, to assistive technology, to coping techniques, and everything in between. We also invite guests from appropriate organisations to talk with us.
We run an email group for announcements from the organisers and sharing notes and resources from the meetings. We also have a Facebook group for members to chat, share information, and generally discuss whatever they like.
Can I join?
If there is someone in your life with dementia, whether you are officially a carer or not, you're welcome to join us. If attending the coffee mornings is difficult you can just join the mailing list if you prefer and we'll send you the notes and resources we've gathered.

Is there a fee?
No, it's a free support network. Donations for refreshments welcome.
When and where?
Typically the first Monday of the month at 10.30am at the Six Bells, Bishop's Castle (in the back room, enter via courtyard as the front doors will still be shut). Subject to change so new members are advised to make contact first to confirm the details and so we can look out for you on the day.
Can people with dementia come along?
The focus of this group is on the carers, and creating an environment where we can freely discuss the trials and tribulations of the dementia journey.

We will be using dial a ride, for which there will be a small charge. Please bring a picnic or alternatively cafes are available at the locations. Cafe purchases will be at your own expense.
We appreciate situations can change at the last minute so no worries if you need to cancel at the last minute, but it would be helpful if you could contact us to show an interest to give us an idea of numbers.

Library drop-ins
Drop-in mornings for people living with dementia and their carers at Bishop's Castle Library.
Next drop in Monday 19th October then 16th November 11.30 - 1pm. Continuing every third Monday of the month.
Come and join us, in a safe quiet space where you can browse books and have a chat.
Members of the 800 Club will be in attendance for support.

For local businesses - Show you care
Dementia awareness sessions for your business are offered by an Alzheimer's Society Ambassador in our local area. Book your awareness training now and receive a sticker for your businesses window.
The sessions take about an hour at your place of work. If you ow a business or work for a business that you think would benefit from becoming more dementia aware please contact us.
