Mrs. Macias is the Head Band Director for Barbara Bush Middle School. Prior to teaching at Barbara Bush, she taught band in Kennedale ISD for the past 10 years, as well as six years of teaching in Colorado. In addition to sweepstakes performances at UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contests, Mrs. Macias’ bands have advanced to the area and state level of ATSSB Outstanding Performance Series, winning in 2016. Her band was also named the Music for All Citation of Excellence Commended Winner in 2016.
Mrs. Macias attended the State University of New York College at Potsdam where she received her Bachelor of Music Education Degree in 2004. While at Potsdam, she performed with the Symphonic and Concert Bands, Phoenix Club Women’s Choir, Crane Chorus, and Crane Clarinet Choir. Mrs. Macias also holds a Master of Instrumental Music Education Degree from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago, IL.
When Mrs. Macias is not teaching band, you can find her spending time with her husband, Paul, and twin boys, Johnathan and Theodore.
Mr. Cortier is excited to join the Barbara Bush Middle School Band staff as the new Assistant Band Director for the 2025-2026 school year.
Joseph Cortier recently graduated from the University of North Texas and will begin his teaching career this upcoming school year. Originally from Fort Worth, Texas, Mr. Cortier is a graduate of W.E. Boswell High School and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education with a concentration in Trumpet from the University of North Texas in May of 2025.
While at North Texas, Mr. Cortier participated in multiple ensembles including the University Band, Concert Band, Brass Band, and the Green Brigade Marching Band, where he served as Trumpet Section Leader.
In the spring of 2025, Mr. Cortier completed his student teaching in Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District. In addition to student teaching, Mr. Cortier has taught as Marching Band Technician for Denton High School and Keller Central High School.
Mr. Cortier’s professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity. He is incredibly excited to begin the year at Barbara Bush Middle School
