I have chosen some pieces of 'classical' music for listening. They all relate to the ocean- some are written in the Northern Hemishphere, and some in Aotearoa/New Zealand.
You could
Listen to each piece in 3 or 4 sections before listening to the whole on a different day
Give students the opportunity to draw while they listen
Use the calmer, quieter sections for mindfulness, rest times
Develop a movement/dance piece in response to a short piece or part of a piece
Explore the composer's motivation and experience that led to writing the music
Felix Mendelssohn wrote this music after visiting a famous cave on a rocky island in Scotland. You could listen to it in three or four sittings. Some parts are calm and restful, others more stimulating. Note the changes in tempo and dynamics. How has the composer used different sounds and melodies to represent the cave and the wild sea around it?
